The distribution of the buildings’ volumes of this project is based on the idea to realize a portion of the city, with a dense urban fabric and strongly related to the context in which it is located.
The intervention aims at a physical and then cultural identification of buildings and urban spaces as ‘places in the city’, understood in the Latin sense of civitas, which means both built city and civilization, underlining the close interdependence of the two things and the essential influence that the shape of one has on the formation of the other.
We therefore focused on the value of open spaces, on setting them as central for the pedestrian, on the constitution of an urban fabric that has as its purpose the appropriation of spaces by those who live there, which helps the identification process with a place and that allows to consider it as one’s own, favoring flows and even spontaneous encounters between the various users of the heterogeneous set of functions hosted. In fact, today’s theme of environmental sustainability (in addition to the need to have an ecological-economic basis), in order to be shared by everyone, must start from the desire to preserve and make sustainable what is achieved primarily because we want it, we feel it ours and we want to share it.
Furthermore, the fact that the school is inserted in a more varied and heterogeneous environment so exquisitely urban is not secondary, also with respect to the training and the process of growth, not only cultural but also social, of school children.
Equal attention was paid to buildings, to their aesthetic as well as functional qualities and to their wider perceptive qualities, which include a tactile richness of the surfaces and materials used, which are often natural and strongly related to what already exists historically within the context, the landscape, and which aims at a genius loci that achieves a balance between the pre-existing condition and the new constructions.
The project is comprises four buildings, which are the schools, the library and canteen, the sports hall / gym and the post office / headquarters of the local associations. There are also four open spaces: two pedestrian squares, one of which is the existing enlarged Piazza Raffelli, the school yard and the parking area of the entire complex.

Con questo progetto si è voluta affrontare la tematica della distribuzione dei corpi di fabbrica come la costituzione di una porzione di città, la formazione di un tessuto urbano denso e fortemente relazionato con il contesto in cui si colloca.
L’intervento vuole portare ad una identificazione prima fisica poi culturale degli edifici e degli spazi urbani come ‘luoghi della città’, intesa nel senso latino di civitas, che significa sia città costruita che civiltà, sottolineando la stretta interdipendenza delle due cose e l’imprescindibile influenza che la forma dell’una ha sul costituirsi dell’altra.
Si è quindi puntato molto sul valore degli spazi aperti, sull’impostazione di questi come centrali rispetto al pedone, sulla costituzione di un tessuto urbano che abbia come finalità l’appropriazione degli spazi da parte di chi li abita, che aiuti il processo di identificazione con un luogo e che porti a considerarlo proprio, favorendo flussi e incontri anche spontanei tra i vari fruitori dell’insieme eterogeneo di funzioni ospitate. Il tema odierno della sostenibilità ambientale infatti, oltre che avere una base ecologico-economica, per essere condiviso da tutti deve partire dal voler conservare e dal rendere sostenibile ciò che si realizza in primis perchè lo desideriamo, lo sentiamo nostro e lo condividiamo.
Non è secondario inoltre, anche rispetto alla formazione e al processo di crescita non solo culturale dei ragazzi della scuola, il fatto che questa sia inserita in un ambito più variegato ed eterogeneo così squisitamente urbano.
Altrettanta attenzione è stata dedicata agli edifici, alle loro qualità estetiche oltre che funzionali e alle loro qualità percettive più ampie, che comprendono una ricchezza tattile delle superfici e dei materiali utilizzati, che sono spesso naturali e fortemente relazionati con ciò che già c’è, con il contesto, con il paesaggio, e che mirano al costituirsi di un genius loci che raggiunga un equilibrio tra le preesistenze e le nuove realizzazioni.
Il progetto è impostato su quattro corpi di fabbrica, che sono quello delle scuole, quello della biblioteca e della mensa, quello del palazzetto dello sport/palestra e quello dell’edificio postale e della sede delle associazioni. Quattro sono anche gli spazi aperti: due piazze pedonali, di cui una è l’esistente Piazza Raffelli ampliata, il cortile delle scuole e l’area a parcheggio dell’intero complesso.
